The Sunday Post #28: Writer’s Block, Recent Reads, and Bookish Plans

Are bloggers writers? I do not necessarily think of myself as a writer. However, I sometimes have writer’s block—like today. My week was spent working, reading, and knitting. This is what I do every week. Perhaps something funny, challenging, or heartbreaking came out of the week that gives me an anecdote to share. Usually my weeks are quiet filled with the gift of God, my family, and those things that God has entrusted me to care for. During these weeks—which, quite frankly, I think are the best—I put my fingers on the keyboard, and no words flow. Like the humming of cicadas, my mind is filled with nothing but everything all at the same time. I do not know if this means I am a writer or just a blogger who writes. Regardless, I am thankful for all the days that I get to share nothing … and everything..

What I read

This week I read Kate Landry Has a Plan which is absolutely hysterical. I also read An Unexpected Companion.

What I’m reading now…

I’m still working my way through The Lightness of Water (audiobook). I haven’t been able to go on walks either due to the weather or because I’m under it so this has been paused for a bit. I hope things improve this week so I can pick this back up. I’m at a critical point.

What I’m reading next…

I’m going to pick up Discovering Dahlia tomorrow morning. I like to give myself a pause between books to work on other things. This pause, I’m working on updating my blog for the upcoming week. After that is Some Like It Scot. I’m really excited about this one because the author, Pepper Basham, is going to be at Rendezvous 2025 and I’m hoping to read at least one book by most, if not all, of the authors by then.

The Sunday Post #27: Book Thrifting: Who knew a quick stop at Goodwill could turn into a bookish adventure? I walked in expecting nothing (because, let’s be real, my Goodwill never has the good stuff), but then—out of the corner of my eye—I spotted it. A stack of Amish romance! What happened next? Let’s just say it involved a bench jump, a dramatic rescue mission, and… a little mix-up that made me laugh when I got home.

From the Author:

  • The Truth About Love by Susan Marie Graham. This was a recommendation from one of the Booksties on Bookstagram. She’s friends with the author and I said I would read and review. Which I forgot. Oops! So I’ll try to squeeze this in somewhere. I’m really liking the premise of the book so it’s not like it’s a hardship or anything.

Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather. It is very springish here. Lovely one moment, pouring the next. I, too, sometimes can’t think of a thing to write. Writer’s block is a real thing.

What’s funny is today I sat down and started typing and didn’t stop until I was satisfied that all the words were out of my head. It’s amazing what a difference one day can make.

I’m behind on reviews, but Kate Landry Has a Plan sounds good, so can’t wait till I can read your review on that! And Some Like it Scot is on my TBR, so I’ll be watching for your review of that one too. I like your thoughts about if blogging is writing. I feel like it’s a form of writing. And maybe that’s why I feel like I’m still writing even when I can’t seem to get back to my actual novel editing or finishing the other two I have started. Good thoughts! Hope you have a good week!

Thanks, Lisa. Yes, I suppose blogging is writing. I guess I just can’t say I’m a professional writer since no one pays me to do this.

I do think of my writing on my blog as writing, and I do occasionally get frozen by writer’s block. Some weeks are quiet, and I like that. I hope you have a great week.

That cover on The Lightness of Water is pretty. I get writers block from time to time at my blog so sometimes I’ll skip an updates post because I have nothing to write about. Enjoy your books this week! An Unexpected Companion looks like a nice one too.

It is a pretty cover! Luckily with the Sunday post, there are other things to talk about. I can skip any life updates if needed. Otherwise I only publish lifestyle type content when I have something to say.

I love the quiet, uneventful weeks too. May seem boring to some, but I enjoy the comfort of it. I am looking forward to the new Basham book too. I really enjoyed her Skymar series. It was fun.
