This is a beautiful softbound imitation leather Bible that’s easy to flip through and stays open no matter where you’re at. There’s not much embossing on this; just a simple open Bible emblem on the cover. The spine has the same emblem, along with the Bible title and version stamped in gold. The gilded edges are lovely. he paper is your typical lightweight Bible paper, so you don’t want to use anything too heavy if you plan to write or highlight in it. The text is small but easy to read. No squinting if you have normal or corrected eyesight. If you have significant sight loss like my husband, it is unlikely you’ll be able to use this Bible. This is a double-column format without room to write. Since it’s a study Bible, it’s intended to be used in conjunction with other things (notebook, another Bible, etc.). The beginning of the Bible contains an Introduction, information on getting to know God, and the story behind the NKJV. The books of the Bible are laid out in a way that resembles a periodic table. I really like this touch. In the back, there are a few maps. One disappointment is that the articles do not have an index so I haven’t been able to find all of them. The articles also aren’t very lengthy which also makes them difficult to locate.

As you may know from previous posts, I am an English Standard Version (ESV) reader. It’s considered slightly closer to the original word-for-word translation. If you are curious about the different versions and where they fall, then I recommend this article. However, it’s a pretty subtle difference, and in some instances, they both read the same word-for-word.

I do have another study Bible, but it is specific to my denomination and is on my Kindle. If I were to purchase it all over again, I would not do Kindle but purchase a hard copy. Having the Enduring Word Study Bible in my hands only reinforced this. It makes it so much easier to study. It also makes it better for side-by-side comparison of different translations.

One of the ways that I use a study Bible is to look up references when I’m reading fiction. If I feel like a Bible reference is not quite used in the correct context or if I’m just questioning how it fits into that context, study Bibles are great. Even though Guzik is of a different faith tribe than I am, I have not run into any notes or applications that lean heavily into his specific denomination. I even looked up a few that I know might be different from what others might believe and found no issue. The only exception is if your church practices infant baptism, although he does note that some believers do. However, I enjoy learning about others’ beliefs and think it’s important to understand all perspectives. However, if you are new to the Christian faith, I would recommend that you speak with the pastor of the church you have chosen to recommend a study Bible before you start branching out or collecting study Bibles.

Overall, the Enduring Word Study Bible is a great resource for anyone wanting to spend time doing a deeper study of scripture. The introductions to each book are the perfect length, and the application notes are truly helpful. It’s clear that a lot of care went into creating this edition, and it is quickly becoming one of my everyday study tools.
