Rebecca Young is unmarried, unattached, and very much pregnant. Desperate for a job in her field, she takes a part-time librarian position in her now deceased ex’s hometown. What she wasn’t expecting was her ex’s cousin, Walker Greystone. But that’s okay, Walker wasn’t Rebecca either. This sweet love story had a great beginning that drew you in and made you want to keep reading.

This love story was a little unexpected in that it didn’t follow the typical romance formula. There was no big misunderstanding that made Rebecca and Walker turn away from each other; instead, the focus is on Rebecca and Walker’s internal struggles and how they handle them. While it makes for a sweet story, I did miss the formula just a little. I liked that Rebecca didn’t think of the pregnancy as a mistake; some of her struggles were related, but she wasn’t spending time beating herself up over this. All babies are a gift from God. Given that this is a Christian romance, I appreciate that Auguste didn’t toe the line on that storyline. It helped keep me engaged that it wasn’t a story of repentance on premarital relations.   Overall, this was a good love story. I look forward to reading more from Auguste.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Very pretty cover! And I actually like when they don’t follow the formula of a third act breakup, so this might be a perfect read for me. Thanks for sharing!

I hope you read it! I think I was just in the mood for the formula at the time. That’s the difficulty of reading and writing based on emotions as opposed to looking at books from a literary/academic perspective.

I enjoy Love Inspired stories because they are sweet, clean and usually have a Christian focus, but not too preachy either. Nice review, Carla.

Welcome to Carla’s Book Crush where I share my favorite clean, Christian reads. I review everything from Amish and historical romance to suspense, contemporary fiction, nonfiction, and the occasional devotional. If it has heart, hope, and a message that points back to Christ, it’s probably on my shelf. I also love chatting with authors and featuring interviews that give you a peek behind the pages. Whether you’re looking for a new release, a cozy weekend read, or just something uplifting and well-written, you’re in the right place. Clean stories. Encouraging faith. Books worth reading.
