CB: Hello, Darlene! I’m so happy to meet you in this way. Love Inspired authors always allow my mind to take a break from the everyday and transport me to a new place, so I adore getting to know more from a personal perspective.  

What’s a fun fact about you that most readers might not know? 

DLT: When I was in my twenties, I did a little bit of modeling. It was fun! 

CB: You’ve shared a bit about your love for mysteries. Do you have a favorite fictional detective or investigator who’s inspired your writing? 

DLT: Nancy Drew! From the time I picked up my first Nancy Drew book as a little girl! I fell in love with not only a good mystery/suspense story, but the idea of wanting to create my own! 

CB: When you’re stuck on a scene or a character arc, what helps you get unstuck? 

DLT: Stepping away. Whenever I’m stuck, I find if I take a break and go for a walk or do something non-writing related, it helps. Or…brainstorming with my fellow authors. 

CB: In  Echoes of Darkness, Oaklynn Brock has a powerful and intense backstory. What inspired her character’s inner conflict?  

DLT: I wanted to give her a difficult and darker backstory than most of my heroines, so I started brainstorming ideas. I thought having a father who’s a serial killer would be an intense situation for her to deal with, and making her a police officer added to the complexity. 

CB: Cult dynamics can be complex and chilling. What kind of research went into developing the Light Paragons and their role in the plot?   

DLT: I looked at different cults to check out their beliefs, missions, agendas, etc. I also watched a few movies involving cults. I then created the Light Paragons and wove it into the plotline. 

CB: What do you hope readers walk away with after finishing Echoes of Darkness? 

DLT: There’s so much darkness in our world and I wanted to share that even in that darkness, we can be a light—a single light—God’s light—shining for all to see.  

CB: Looking back, what’s been the most surprising or rewarding moment in your writing journey so far?   

DLT: When someone actually “fan-girled” me at a conference. I’m like…”it’s only little old me!” haha! I’m feeling so blessed! Love my readers!
