In pursuit of a rare book, will Natalie and Mason find each other again?

With her twenty-plus-year marriage on the brink of collapse, bookish Natalie Daughtry immerses herself in her new bookstore job. When the mysterious Caspar gathers Natalie and her friends Everleigh and Brooke for the second time, she’s ready for an adventure to disperse the turmoil clouding her marriage. Caspar enlists their help in searching for a rumored copy of Lewis Carroll’s handwritten and illustrated manuscript of Alice’s Adventures Under Ground. Natalie is immediately enticed–this is the perfect distraction.

But then Mason joins the team, and suddenly Natalie and her husband are side-by-side on the search for this elusive treasure. Being forced to work together has them tumbling deep into their past, seeking answers to old misunderstandings. When they emerge from the rabbit hole, things aren’t the same. Will they rediscover the love that once held the pages of their life together?

When I first started reading this book, I had flashbacks to the original Charlie’s Angels series because I’m just that old. Okay, some of them I watched as reruns because it’s not really a show for six-year-olds. But I digress. Those vibes lessened as I got further into the book and became enthralled with everything that was happening. Between Natalie and Mason’s marriage issues, running all over the globe, and trying to find this manuscript, there was just so much to take in.

I am all for the adventure in this book, but one thing I kept thinking about over and over was how thankful I am for my husband. The things Natalie and Mason face are very real communication issues that I’m sure happen in many marriage. I felt Natalie was unusually hard on Mason, and while she sometimes said the right things to him, I didn’t feel that her actions or thoughts always matched the words coming out of her mouth. Not that I’ve ever done that (ahem… now I’m just flat-out telling fibs). Mason I adored—clearly more than Natalie in the beginning. He had his issues, but it seemed like he was trying just a smidge harder than Natalie. Come on, Nat!

Oh, I shouldn’t forget to tell you… there were very clearly marked time hops in this book. It was fascinating to hear the thoughts of Luciana Perez, the daughter of the original owner of the book—how the book came to be, the impact it had on Luciana, and hints on its possible whereabouts.

After reading this book, I’m hooked. I want to read the first book in the series and can’t wait for book three. For lovers of books about books, history, and stories that take you around the world, this shouldn’t be missed.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher.
All opinions are my own.

Oh it would! Lordy, that show came out and overnight all the girls in my school suddenly had blonde, feathered hair. We all wanted to be just like Farrah, lol.
