New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2024

I discovered a lot of new authors in 2024 and I suspect that the same will happen in 2025. Prior to the book blog, when I found an author I liked, I would check out and read everything that the author had written. Therefore I didn’t have as wide of a variety of authors as I do now. Finding and reading new authors really is fun, I found a lot of books, I would not have found otherwise. I’m glad this trend will continue.

Since I haven’t been tracking for long, some of these authors are only three star reads for me which means, I may or may not give them another try. I really need a lot of four and five star books in my hand or on my Kindle to keep my reading mojo going.

Emma MillerThe Forbidden Christmas Match
Review

One would think that I’ve read all of the Amish authors out there. I have not. Since I had a habit of reading the same authors on repeat, it was hard for me to move on. Will I read this author again? 100% yes. I will gladly get out my credit card and swipe for any of Emma’s books.

Kathryn SpringerChristmas at Spruce Hill Farm
Review

I picked up Springer’s book becaue I like the cover and the fact that it’s a holiday romance. I rarely read the descriptions, I just go by appearances but the fact that this is a bookish book caught my eye as well. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! This was so incredibly well-written, how could I pass up another one of her books.

Teri Wilson – Fa-La-La-La Faking It
Review

I don’t think I realized how much I love a good fake dating trope until I read this book. I also didn’t know how much I’d enjoy dogs being in central part of a book but now I love it. Will I read this author again? I have every book she’s ever written (old and yet to be published) on my Amazon wish list. Need I say more?

Deena Alexander Hunted for the Holidays
Review

I can still remember the suspense of this book. The surprise ending. And how Deena wove in a secret child without loosing any of the religious undertones you find in the Love Inspired Line Will I read this author again? Yes! If a book lingers with you the author is worth reading again and again.

Mindy Obenhaus – Rediscovering Christmas
Review

Mindy was able to write some uncomfortable things in a way that made it feel real. This allowed me to connect to the characters, in particular, the female main character(FMC). The characters questioning of God and the writers ability to broach the subject worked so well. Will I read this author again? For Sure!

Lisa Jones BakerSerenity’s Secret
Review

The fact that I have two Amish book writers on this list tells you just how large this genre is. Some did not know it existed. Lisa has written ten books based on my research. Not a lot but she did so well with this one. She definitely kept me guessing on what the secret was. Always a good sign. Will I read this author again? Totally!

Danielle ThorneA Guardian Till Christmas
Review

This book was a three star for me. It did not move me in the way that I like but I really think it was the story line. Maybe it’s just not my cup of tea? I think Danielle’s writing style has the potential to bring out the emotion. Will I read this author again? This is not an author I’ll likely seek out but I would give another book a try. It’s like dating, you should go out with the person a few times before you make a final decision.

Jill WeatherholtTheir Inoperable Bond
Review

I did enjoy the fact that Jill was willing to tackle an older couple. So many authors want to write only about young romances. My main issue is the trope. I’m not a fan of small town romances when the woman is supposed to give up a high paying career to go live in the country. Will I read this author again? I’m looking at a physical paperback of one of her books right now. It’s not on the top of my list but I’ll get to it eventually.

Jodie Bailey- Taken at Christmas
Review

I liked the book overall. This was a trope issue. Not a writing issue. Or maybe it was a combo. These people are dealing with some heavy issues – getting chased by the mob and whatnot – but the main focus seems to be on the romance. Really? That’s the last thing I’m thinking about if my life is in danger. Will I read this author again? There’s a book on my shelf right now.

Janice Carter – Rescued at Christmas
Review

This was a nice short read. I do prefer the Harlequin Love Inspired imprint more than the Heartwarming. Maybe I just need my stories with a side of God. Will I read this author again? While this author isn’t a go-to for me yet, I’d read another book before making up my mind.

Great list, Carla! All of these books are new-to-me, but I can identify with you so deeply on how when we found an author we liked before our blogging days, we’d check out as much of their backlist as possible. I’m especially fond of series for that reason!

Great list! I love your comment about reading a new author being like dating. It makes so much sense! It can be really hard to decide from just one book whether an author will work for you or not.

Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!

One book is just not enough. Especially if it’s a trope you don’t like that much.

I haven’t read any of these authors. I am busy right now updating my list of reviewed books and it is painfully obvious to me that I don’t often read the same author over and over. There are just a few authors I make sure to read everything they publish based on my previous reading experiences, but not many. So every year is a long list of new authors.

I’m also a little hesitant to try more books by an author if the first book I read by them was 3 stars or less. It could be just the one book, so I wouldn’t say no completely, but reading time is also limited so I’d prefer to focus on the 4- and 5-star reads as well :)

I like your comment about Taken at Christmas. I always find it distracting when there’s some really big, huge stakes — like life and death! – and the characters take the time to agonise over a crush or some trivial relationship worries.

That’s a good analogy. Trying new authors is a little like dating. Sometimes it takes a few dates or books for things to click.

I think it was my mom who told me that about dating and for whatever reason it stuck in my head. Since I’ve been married for 25+ years, I apply this to authors.

I can’t remember if I have ever read a holiday romance at all.
And also I have been neglecting books – especially new ones – sadly since I started crafting. It’s hard to get both in if you are not a fan of audiobooks (they are just not for me, I tried).
I wasn’t even aware that there is a genre like Amish romance, possibly it’s not a thing here in Germany or maybe it has just passed me by.

I have absent flows sometimes I read more sometimes I knit more. I think a lot of people are unaware of Amish romances, but they really are a very popular genre in the US where we have a larger Amish population. I would suspect that in Germany it really wouldn’t be popular because authors really wouldn’t be exposed to that culture. As far as I know, there are no Amish settlements there.
