The Sunday Post #6: Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll

There is something I love so much that it makes me giddy. And it’s not reading. Or knitting. It’s roller skating. I’ve been watching Roller Jam on Max and I’m loving it. On Saturday my granddaughter wanted to go to the rink for her birthday. So yes, I did bounce, rock, skate, roll. If you don’t skate or know the refernce then click here for a little inspiration.

This weekend is jam packed. Before skating I picked out two new pairs of glasses and got them on order and went to lunch with both of my boys and my granddaughter. Tomorrow the birthday celebration contiues, because that’s what Mimi’s do. Also, you only turn 16 once.

Ten Ways My Reading Has Changed Over Time: Over time, my reading habits have changed a lot. I don’t spend as much time reading, and my attention span has shifted. I’ve embraced e-books and free galleys, stopped buying books, and narrowed my genres. While I still love reading, I’ve set boundaries to balance it with other hobbies.

A Year of Flowers by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This one is for a Bookstagram Tour with JustReads Publicity Tours. I never thought I’d do anything like this on Insta since I’m not a huge social media person but I was pretty desperate to get my hands on this book. Revell tends to reject me on NetGalley so I had to think of a new way. I have twevle review posts so far on this blog and two are books written by Suzanne Woods Fisher and one collection of short stories – one of which is hers. Can you guess who my favorite author is?

I used to love roller skating. Now I’d probably fall on my patoot! Happy 16 to your granddaughter!

I was a huge skater when I was a kid/teenager, but I’d be afraid to put on skates these days, lol. Glad you had so much fun!

Cool idea of original top ten themes! My library is awesome too. There are so many things going on there. The newest is a table where there’s always a jigsaw puzzle going on, so you can stop and try to add a few pieces. Loving it

I love the jigsaw puzzle idea! If they put one in the adult lounge area that might work. I might bring it up as an idea the next time I’m in.

Thanks for the Suzanne Woods Fisher recommendation, I’ve now got the first in her series on request at our library. As for skating, I would love to. And a big however, when I was young, living in a suburb of Los Angeles, there were sidewalks going everywhere and we all roller skated happily with skate keys around our necks. Now in the country, in Hawaii, the road here is not even paved so roller skating would have to happen somewhere else, which means for me, not happening.

You’ll have to let me know how you enjoy the book. I don’t like skating on the streets or sidewalks for the reason you’re saying about Hawaii. I’ve always been a rink person.

I used to LOVE to skate. When I was growing up I went roller skating at United Skates Of America and ice skating at the rink in the middle of our neighborhood or the creek across the road.

That’s so fun! I’ve never been at a big rink like that. I’ve only ice skated once but I love reading about people ice skating on creeks and ponds in my books.

It was my mom who loved to skate. For her sixtieth birthday, my sister and I had a skating party for her. So much fun!

I wish everyone knew all the things you can do at our libraries.

You should skate! I always take advantage of having little ones around so I can go without looking like the creepy old person who hangs out at the rink by herself. 😂 Grab Wyatt and go.

Skating sounds great. I loved that when I was younger but have now reached the age where fear of falling means that I’ll stick to dancing on my feet instead of wheels or blades.

I’ll be 55 in December. When I was doing artistic skating a few years ago there were people well into their 70s competing. But, of course, you need to do what makes you comfortable.

Sounds like a fun and wonderful week. I haven’t roller skated in years but have fond memories of going to the rink on Friday nights as a teen.

I love skating and go all the time. There’s a rink five minutes from my house so that helps.

Welcome to Carla’s Book Crush where I share my favorite clean, Christian reads. I review everything from Amish and historical romance to suspense, contemporary fiction, nonfiction, and the occasional devotional. If it has heart, hope, and a message that points back to Christ, it’s probably on my shelf. I also love chatting with authors and featuring interviews that give you a peek behind the pages. Whether you’re looking for a new release, a cozy weekend read, or just something uplifting and well-written, you’re in the right place. Clean stories. Encouraging faith. Books worth reading.
