This book is a warm, comforting read. Dirk Matthews has already faced unimaginable loss, yet he leans on his faith as he builds a quiet life with his service dog, Molly. Widower Tessa Wagner is still struggling with her own loss, particularly the issues surrounding her nine year old son, Grayson, whose grief is evident in his outbursts and problems at school. This story is a slow burn, letting emotion sink in naturally. Dirk makes me smile with his thoughts about Tessa and the boys. If Tessa could hear his thoughts, she would throw herself at Dirk. Tessa has has stepped away from letting God remain in control, unlike Dirk, who is letting God lead the way. This book speaks the truth of hope and healing; it doesn’t mean forgetting. It shows that with a new path forward, the hurt can lessen and allow new things to flourish.

Why I don’t do star ratings... All authors, all books, have someone who labored over them and someone who loves reading them. A star rating is an arbetrary system that is only relevant to the person who provided the rating. I’m always honest with my opnions and feelngs about a book and how it resonated with me. You can hear that in the words that I pen. I explain more about this decision in the article For the Love of Books.
