I’ve bee enjoying getting to know the sisters at Legacy Ranch. It seems like something is always bringing them home. This time the youngest sister, Kendall, needed a place to think.

Genre: Inspirational Contemporary Christian Romance

This is a slow and steady read full of reflection and thought. Kendall struggled with finding her voice and her future. While Ryder couldn’t let go of the past, leaving him paralyzed and comparing all women to his ex.

Kendall seems to be a workaholic but she’s also willing to put that work towards helping others and serving the Lord. With her culinary skills and desire to be involved with her community, I was a little jealous of this fictional character. Even with her inner turmoil, Kendall jumped in to help without even thinking. I don’t have the gift of hospitality but truly appreciate people who do. I enjoyed seeing her slow realization that dreams can change and that doesn’t mean you gave up, it means you’ve grown.

Ryder didn’t feel like some of the heroes that I’ve read lately. Perhaps a good thing, it’s nice to shake things up every once in a while. Instead of having a perfect hero, I found myself wondering if men just don’t listen. Ryder was an overly attentive dad, seeming to need extra reassurance that his son was okay. He still used a monitor for his four year old, Shepard, in case he was needed in the night. However, that attentiveness seemed to run right out the door when Kendall was talking. Okay, not always, he is a good guy, a strong Christian, and according to Kendall, very attractive. But once he did figure out where he went wrong, Ryder is quick to apologize. A good quality in anyone.

I found the pacing of this story more slow and relaxed. Perhaps the way Kendall felt moving from the city to the country. Both Kendall and Ryder’s stories revolved more around their inner struggles as opposed to having any real difficulties (although there definitely were some) with each other. This is a great story for those who struggle with making career decisions or letting go of past hurts. I think there are things in here that could help someone see different angles and ways to approach those challenges.

If you enjoy series that you can jump into at any time, this one is a good one. It’s great if you can read all of them but it’s not critical. This book is replete with small town vibes, animals, and love between friends and family. Be prepared with pen and paper or a highlighter because the food talk in here is crave worthy. You may even be able to plan your Easter meal.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
