Books as Self

Books lay dormant on a shelf,

Reminders of my former self.

Silent. Silent.

But still loud.

Begging me to take them down.

Some speak of a little love.

Some about the Lord above.

Yet others from an unknown time.

Not knowing what was on my mind.

I’ll return to that self one day.

Changing in a cyclic way.

Gently, I’ll take them from the shelf.

Once again, they are myself.

This is such a good poem! I have books on my shelves that remind me of times I was reading different book or obsessed with different subjects. And even though I don’t go back and reread, I like seeing them still on my shelves. Thanks for sharing this!

Why I don’t do star ratings... All authors, all books, have someone who labored over them and someone who loves reading them. A star rating is an arbetrary system that is only relevant to the person who provided the rating. I’m always honest with my opnions and feelngs about a book and how it resonated with me. You can hear that in the words that I pen. I explain more about this decision in the article For the Love of Books.

Stay in the story.
